Traveling by car

Just a short drive southwest of downtown Chicago, Chicagoland Speedway sits in the open plains near Joliet, offering one of the most accessible and enjoyable stops on the NASCAR Cup Series calendar. With summer weather, big crowds, and the unmistakable race-day atmosphere, your trip can easily turn into a full weekend getaway.

Because large crowds are expected during the Chicagoland NASCAR race weekend, fans are strongly encouraged to arrive early. If you have a parking pass, check the instructions printed on the back – different lots may require different entry routes. Police officers and parking attendants will be on-site to direct all vehicles.

Approximate driving times

  • Downtown Chicago: 60 minutes (45–50 miles via I-55 South)
  • Naperville/Aurora: 45-60 minutes
  • Rockford: 1 hour 45 minutes
  • Springfield: 2 hours 45 minutes

Extra tips for race weekend

  • Expect heavy traffic around the Speedway, especially before Cup Series events.
  • Follow all parking instructions from police and event staff.
  • Multiple parking lots are available – all are clearly marked with large signage.
  • Tailgating is allowed in most lots, although restrictions may apply to open flames or grills.
  • Do not park on local roads or in nearby business lots – unauthorized vehicles may be towed.
